PayrollHero took part in a pitching competition in Manila, PH a week ago for ON3 Business Plan Competition for the NCR and Southern Luzon Region at the Meridian International (MINT) Business Arts and Technology College. Two PayrollHero team members Tin Sanchez and Margarita Dumlao presented the business to the judges against a few other Philippine startups and PayrollHero was chosen as the winner! That is the second competition that PayrollHero has won in the Philippines this month.

Poker at Obvious
I caught up with fellow Luxr.co alumni Tony Stubblebine the other day at his offices to catch up and grab a beer. Tony is the co-founder of Lift.do, a company funded by the Obvious guys and operates out of their offices. I dropped into the Obvious offices to meetup with Tony and end up playing poker with him, his co-founder Jon Crosby a few of the Obvious guys late into the evening. It was a great to chat further with their team and learn more about the ins and outs of poker.

Echelon 2012 – Philippines Satellite; Payroll Hero Wins!
Payroll Hero was selected to take part in the Philippines Satellite event last night as part of the Echelon 2012 Technology Conference that is coming up in June 2012 in Singapore.
What is Echelon 2012?
“Echelon 2012 is a two-day, double-track event on June 11-12 with over 1,100 delegates, a startup marketplace of up to 50 startups and various workshops. Echelon 2012 will be the biggest ever edition of Asia’s best startup event. It will discover Southeast Asia’s best startups on an all new scale.”
Echelon 2012 setup a 6 city tour to “hunt for the most promising startups in Asia” and Payroll Hero was chosen to participate in the Philippines event. The startups chosen to pitch where;
1) Guestlist.ph – an online guest listing service and nightlife social networking site
2) Collabspot – an online project management tool based on Kanban boards
3) Bolooka – an e-commerce website generator
4) Payroll Hero – payroll generation in the cloud for web and mobile
5) Mobile9 – And open, local and social app store
6) Paybilis – Bill collection and payment service
7) Infinte.ly – a central hub for small business owners to manage their web presence
The pitches were judged by Mohan Belani of e27, Jay Fajardo of Roofcamp, Simone Brunozzi from Amazon Web Services, Ben Gillenwater from Research In Motion and Miguel Paraz who is a mobile consultant.
Each startup did a fantastic job pitching their business but in the end, the judges choose Payroll Hero as the winner!
Asia Bridge Forum Taipei – “Business Revolutions in the Cloud”
Payroll Hero co-founder Michael Stephenson was on stage at the Asia Bridge Forum in Taipei speaking on a panel about “Business Revolutions in the Cloud” to Entrepreneurs Organization /Young Presidents Organization members from 16 countries.
Joining Mike on the panel was the Simon Huang the Chairman of WPH Holdings which the largest electronics distributor in Asia, David Siu a VC from Hong Kong and Koki Uchiyama a Japanese internet pioneer.

NAWBO LA – The 26th Annual Leadership & Legacy Awards Luncheon
I had the honor of being invited to speak at the National Association of Women Business Owners Los Angeles Chapter’s (“NAWBO LA“) 26th Annual Leadership & Legacy Awards Luncheon. It was a pleasure being at the event with so many amazing entrepreneurs.
I was on a panel called “KEEP MONEY: How to save money and increase your bottom line” that was focused on cost cutting measures, online tools as well as tips and tricks from the panelests personal experiences.
The panel included Jason Nazar, co-founder of Docstoc.com, Marylou Garcia, Managing Director of Expense Reduction Analysis and myself. The moderator was Rita Dailey, SVP of Union Bank.
After the panel was the luncheon, where NAWBO LA awarded 7 people from all different backgrounds awards for their contributions to “legacy and leadership”. The winners were Luisa Acosta-Franco – Head of Specialized Distribution for Farmers Insurance Group, Lubov Azria – Chief Creative Officer of BCBGMAXAZRIAGROUP, Frieda Caplan the Founder & Chairman of the Board, Frieda’s Inc., Cookie Johnson the Founder & Co-Owner of CJ by Cookie Johnson, Byron Reed the Senior Vice President of Wells Fargo, Julie Schoenfeld the CEO of Perfect Market, Inc., and Patricia Watts the President/CEO of FCI Management Consultants.
It was a fantastic event!

Salesforce Cloud Conference
I dropped into the Salesforce Cloud Conference the other day in San Francisco at the Moscone Center to check out what Salesforce was up to and to meet up with fellow Canadian Daniel Debow. Daniel sold two companies, Workbrain and most recently Rypple to Salesforce.com. It was great to sit (in huge beanbag chairs) at the event and chat with Daniel about his experiences in the technology world. He has amazing experience and expertise.
50 Coffees: Bezos Expeditions
I had the opportunity to meet up with Melinda Lewison who runs Bezos Expeditions, which handles the personal investments of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. It was great to meet up with her in their Seattle, WA offices to chat further about what we are up to with Payroll Hero and where we are going with the company.

Verne Harnish in Beijing With Payroll Hero Team
Some of the Payroll Hero team flew into Beijing China to attend Verne Harnish’s Gazelles conference with the EO Beijing Chapter. Verne’s company Gazelles is focused on growing companies and leaders around the world. Verne is also the founder of EO. EO is a worldwide organizing that fosters entrepreneurs and helps them grow their businesses.
