Security Update: Heartbleed Bug

It has been discovered that there was an issue with the encryption software library called OpenSSL which is used in a majority of online software and websites. It has caused some concern in the general media and is being referred to as the heartbleed bug. We felt we should quickly inform you about this issue, and what it means in relation to PayrollHero.

PayrollHero has had very limited exposure, one minor part of our system was affected. This was the software we use to distribute incoming site traffic across our servers. The issue was fixed in less than twenty fours hours of being reported.

There is no evidence to suggest that there has been any intrusion on our software but we’ve taken some additional steps to protect our users. This includes invalidating all existing open sessions prior to the patch, so you’ll need to log back in to PayrollHero. As the nature of this vulnerability is widespread, we recommend changing your passwords across the web, especially for sensitive sites (banking, data storage, etc.)

This sort of quick response time is one of the benefits of using cloud based software. It allows us to fix any problems without having to issue an update or patch. You can be reassured you are constantly receiving the best security for your data well before you are even aware there is a problem.

PayrollHero Swimming With Whale Sharks, Oslob, Philippines

Some of the PayrollHero team went swimming with whale sharks in Oslob, Philippines this past weekend. Oslob is about a three and a half hour drive from Cebu which is the second largest city in the Philippines. At the whale shark area of Oslob, you pay about $50 (including transportation) to get into the water and swim with 8 to 20 whale sharks. The number changes each day.  You can see a quick video below that shows how massive these sharks are:

The Philippine name for “Day of Valor”, Araw ng Kagitingan commemorates the fall of the Bataan in World War 2. Often referred to as Bataan Day, the Regular Holiday falls on April 9th this year. New Feature: Multi Insert Tool

We added two new features to the PayrollHero platform to make managing the platform even easier for larger companies.

Multi Insert Tool: Employees and Schedules
The multi insert tool is the recommended way to create multiple employees or create multiple schedules on the PayrollHero platform. It is the most time efficient way, and we recommend using this when you need to create a large amount of employee profiles. The system automatically generates a bespoke template for you to complete.  It is designed specifically for your company and its settings. This article will explain how to use the feature.

What does your team do outside of work?

unnamedEvery second tuesday is our developers “retro” dinner which caps off a 2 week sprint. After a full day of pounding through notes, progress reports, customer feedback, data metrics, bug reports involved in the sprint, our software engineers go out to dinner to unwind. These retrospective dinners give our team the chance to pull themselves away from work and celebrate a productive 2 week sprint in yet again improving PayrollHero everyday. While some of the debates from the day will continue to be discussed over large plates of BBQ meat and beer, this time also helps bring our team closer as friends, not just colleagues. We continue to create a truly great experience for our Adventure Engineers by providing incredible perks both inside and outside the office.

1 – Use Page Tips

Page Tips are helpful hints that are available on every page in PipelineDeals. Click on the “?” icon at the top of the screen on any page in the app and click Page Tips to receive tips, support articles, and videos related to the page. This is a great way to learn about the features in PipelineDeals

2 – Save a Filter

It’s easy to filter and save lists in PipelineDeals to view custom reports of your data. To save a filter, click on the Advanced filter button on the Deals, People, or Companies tab and click to Save Filter. Saved filters are helpful for creating custom reports, contact or leads lists, and deal pipeline summaries. For more info, check out this helpful video.

3 – Download the iPhone or Android App

PipelineDeals has a dedicated iPhone and Android App that syncs seamlessly with your PipelineDeals account. These free mobile apps are great for accessing your data while you’re away from your laptop or desktop. Download these apps directly from the App Store or Google Play Store.

4 – Track Emails

PipelineDeals also makes it easy to track all of your communication in one place. With PipelineDeals email tracking features, you can track emails as activities using our simple BCC tracking feature.
