Introducing Daily Pulse; Insight Through the Wisdom of Your Entire Workforce

The first new feature to come out of the PayrollHero Lab is Daily Pulse. One of the things we noticed in many of our clients businesses was how the feedback loop worked within the company. Managers report about their teams to their immediate bosses and those bosses reported to their direct boss. The feedback was sometimes quite biased and it was not the whole story. We wanted to find ways to get feedback from the team to management in a quick and easy way.

Introducing: Daily Pulse

old-way-new-way-4

Every member of your team can now anonymously answer any question upon clock-out. Would you want to know what your workforce thinks of the following:

Whom does your team thinks best lives a core value?
Which co-worker do they find the most helpful?
Who should be the teammate of the month?

PayrollHero is your platform for market measurement of your important KPI’s.

Responses from Daily Pulse are one more point of data for management to make better informed decisions with.

We recommend decisions be made with evaluation of the ever growing data set PayrollHero provides and the qualitative recommendations of their leadership.

Daily Pulse does not attribute whom cast the vote publicly; this in combination with our evolving algorithms should thwart spoiled votes.

Lunch at the Canadian Ambassador to the Philippines Residence

unnamed

(L – R: Stephen Jagger, Irene Reeder, The Honourable Ed Fast, Canada’s Minister of International Trade and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway and Ambassador Neil Reeder)

I had the honour of being invited to a business roundtable at the official residence of Canada’s Ambassador to the Philippines.

The Honourable Ed Fast, Canada’s Minister of International Trade and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway was in town and Ambassador Neil Reeder hosted him as well as 10 Canadian executives doing business in the Philippines.

The lunch was designed around giving the minister feedback about the region, how the Canadian Government can help and general feedback on the Embassy’s services.

PayrollHero was the youngest company represented with the next closest being about 20 years old. Both CEOs two great Canadian insurance companies were there (Sun Life and Manulife) as well as companies in the aerospace industry, agriculture and technology.

Irene Reeder not only put together the menu, but cooks most of the food. It was an amazing lunch with Canadian food and wines being represented.

Ridiculously Client Focused; Lau from CBTL

unnamed(L – R – Adam Baechler, Michael Stephenson, Piotr Banasik, Kieran Peppiatt, Stephen Jagger with Laurene Marie Clavo de Comer aka Lau in the front)

We are ridiculously client focused. That means getting close to clients, working from their locations, learning about their processes and understanding the why behind the tasks they are completing.

Today, we invited Lau from The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf Philippines into the office to show us how CBTL handles scheduling at a branch level. She demonstrated how she used the system to help us get better insight into how our customers interact with PayrollHero. It was a great session where we could see first hand, how a store manager interacts with our platform and how their internal processes work. Thanks Lau!!

Hong Kong “Fireside Chat” with GrabTaxi and PayrollHero

Myself and the CEO of GrabTaxi, Anthony Tan, were invited by TechinAsia to participate in a “fireside chat” in Hong Kong yesterday at the Paperclip co-working space in Sheung Wan to talk about startups, Asia, growth and the startup environment in Southeast Asia.

It was a fun event with the questions focused on each of us for about 20 minutes and then open floor questions to the guests. The Hong Kong startup culture looks to be thriving, with 100+ people in attendance from all over the world.

For my part, I talked about how we came to the Philippines in the first place (OutsourcingThingsDone.com) and how PayrollHero was born. We talked about the challenges of selling into Southeast Asia, what industries our platform is focused on and where we are going next.

There will be a video recap of the event that I will post as soon as it is available.

How To Prepare An Alphalist for the Philippines

This is the first guest post of many to come from Kevin Jay B Umali, a CPA in the Philippines.

hirowallpaper2Wondering how to prepare an alphabetical list (alphalist) of employees to comply with regulatory requirements? Thinking that you fell asleep when this was discussed in school? Well, you are one of the many process owners who ask on how to do it. As common as it may seem, the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has issued certain guidelines and basic information requirements in preparing a company’s alphalist. Such guidelines are released through BIR Revenue Regulations (RR).

The general guidelines are enumerated in Section 2.83.2 of RR 2-98, as amended by RR 10-08. The portions relevant to creating an alphalist are mentioned in Section (B) quoted hereunder, for your reference.

(B) The alphabetical list of employees must show the following:

(1) Name and TIN of employees;
(2) Gross compensation paid by present and previous employers for the calendar year;
(3) (a) Taxable 13th month pay/other benefits for the rank and file employees; (b)

Taxable fringe benefits for managerial employees;

(4) Non-taxable 13th month pay/other benefits (Present employer);
(5) Non-taxable statutory minimum wage;
(6) Non-taxable holiday pay, overtime pay, night shift differential pay and hazard pay
(minimum wage earners only);
(7) (a) For 2008, Amount of Exemptions (January 1 to July 5, 2008) and Amount of

Exemptions (July 6 to December 31, 2008); (b) For 2009 and thereafter, Amount of Exemptions;

(8) Amount of premium payments on health and/or hospitalization insurance not exceeding P2,400.00, if any;
(9) Tax required to be withheld computed in accordance with Sec. 24 (A) of the Code;
(10) Tax withheld by all present employers for the calendar year; and
(11) Adjustment, if any.

(C) The alphabetical list of employees shall be prepared indicating, among others, separate listings of the following:

(1) Employees Separated/Terminated before December 31 of the taxable year (indicate date of separation/termination);
(2) Employees whose compensation income are exempt from withholding tax BUT subject to income tax;
(3) Employees whose total compensation income are exempt from withholding tax and not subject to income tax (indicate if MWE);
(4) Employees as of December 31 of the taxable year with no previous employment within the year;
(5) Employees as of December 31 of the taxable year with previous employment within the year;
(6) Employees who received Fringe Benefits subjected to Fringe Benefit Tax;
(7) Alien employees subject to withholding tax.

Employers with centralized accounting system, or those mandated to consolidate remittances (e.g. large taxpayers), shall prepare alphalists on a regional basis or per branch office, due to the identification of SMW per region where the employee is assigned, which shall be submitted to the BIR where the head office is located.

In cases where no information was provided by a previous employer, such fact shall be stated in BIR Form No. 1604-CF and the present employer shall not be liable to any penalties.”

We hope that you find the foregoing sufficient for your purpose.
